Update: This will be the last update now that we have our hands on video. Roland and Viewsonic rep Derek give us a hands on tour. According to this rep, we are looking at a release in late September or early October with a rough price estimate of 350 euros.
IFA kicks off today for the press over in Berlin, Germany so expect a flood of tablets and if we’re lucky some non-tablet stuff, right? NewGadgets is the first out with a hands on with the ViewSonic ViewPad 7-inch Android tablet.
A nice shiny slab of tablet with a multi-touch capacitive display with plenty of ports on the sides – headphone, mini USB, SIM and MicroSD memory card slots, 2 buttons and stereo speakers. 3.2MP webcam on the rear towards the middle, top and a VGA webcam on the front.
Johannes walks us through the customized Android interface, some web browsing, the telephone dialer (since 3G is on board) and a look at Google Maps. Resolution appears to be 1024 x 600. (update: sadly, it’s 800 x 480). Web browsing flicking seemed a little lagging so perhaps not a 1GHz processor?
Check out the hands on photos too (including one compared to the Dell Streak).
Engadget’s hands on video (they’ve confirmed a 600MHz SnapDragon processor which explains the slightly sluggish web browsing, may be European only):
