11.6" MasterPad Tablet

Notch up another potential “iPad competitor” with this Pegatron built prototype called the MasterPad that’s been shown off in Israel.

The MasterPad looks pretty tasty on the outside – it has an IPS display just like the iPad, for great viewing angles and color accuracy but throws in a larger 11.6-inch display with a HD 1366 x 768 resolution display. Nice! Thickness comes in at 14mm with a magnesium aluminum alloy back. It’s a little heavy at 990 grams. (easily two hands required)

On the inside – an Atom N450 processor, 1.3MP webcam, 2x USB 2.0 ports, card reader, accelerometer, mini HDMI, 3G, GPS, 32GB or 64GB SSD options all running together with Windows 7. 1080p HD video will be possible with a built in HD card (Broadcom’s HD Crystal card, I suppose).

Now, with all Wintel based devices up until now, the MasterPad falls flat when it comes to battery life. The 2-cell battery will offer up to 5 hours of battery life, or more like 3 hours in real life. Luckily there are plans for an Android version which would mean better battery life with a non-Intel processor.
