That didn’t take long! When we saw the leak for the Galaxy Nexus hit the web it was seconds before we started rooting our device. The official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean file was discovered on Google’s servers ahead of the official release next month. It looks like it was the same file that was pushed out to the Galaxy Nexus tablets that were handed out at Google IO yesterday.

Jelly Bean includes a new notifications system as well as Project Butter, Google’s efforts on reducing lag in the interface. There’s also a new Google Voice Search system to take on Apple’s Siri, together with app encryption. Google Maps gets offline navigation, and there’s offline voice dictation for US English.

We go over all of it in our video right here:

You can download the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update here [zip file], it is of course at your own risk, but so far so good on this end.
