The LG Optimus Vu, a 4:3 aspect ratio, 5-inch phablet has just shown itself on camera ahead of Mobile World Congress. The video is short, demonstrating web browsing and taking a quick handwritten note.

The Optimus Vu is quite thin, and looks well-built, sporting some handsome metallic accents. However, when the 4:3 device is held and shown straight on, it’s clear that the Vu has a bit of an awkward shape and size for a hybrid smartphone/tablet device, even more so than the Galaxy Note. But clearly for web browsing, the extra screen real estate is welcome. And for writing notes, it probably feels fairly comfortable, considering it’s shaped pretty similarly to a small notebook.

The video shows that the Vu has a dedicated button to bring up the pen tools for handwritten notes, which is interesting. They didn’t show their stylus being used, so we don’t know whether it has a special button like the Galaxy Note’s Wacom-like S Pen. Perhaps this dedicated hardware button is their answer to the S Pen button to avoid any legal challenges.

Mobile World Congress is almost upon us, so we’ll probably be seeing a lot more of the LG Optimus Vu very soon. In the meantime check out their demo video below:
