The previous release of CyanogenMod 9, the customized Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, for the Amazon Kindle Fire worked okay, but had some intermittent audio problems, among other many issues. It basically just showed off what Ice Cream Sandwich could look like on the Kindle Fire, but it was not yet a smooth experience. XDA Developers Forum user JackpotClavin released a new version with fixed audio output.

Back in late December, the initial port of CM9 was delivered, but with the goal of getting help from other developers to fix some of the major issues with the initial port. This included video playback issues, apps not installing because the user partition of the internal memory wasn’t being recognized as an SD card, audio playback issues, and general graphics glitchiness.

You can see what the initial port of CM9 looked like on the Kindle Fire in this video from Brad Linder of Liliputing:

Now the audio problems are fixed, however the video playback issues still remain. If you’re not fazed by the bugginess of the CM9 build, by all means check out the install guide at Liliputing.
