Daniil Matzkuhn of Tblt.de has 2 new videos of the Hands On of the 11.6 inch WeTab, Daniil is pleased with the performance of the WeTab OS and the thumb navigation. A point that was raised but not yet fixed is the advertising widgets on the home screen, the fact that you can not remove it. How neofonie General Manager Helmut Hoffer justifies this in saying that it is a fundamental part of WeTab monetization, which I hope is not the case. This tablet looks like it is shaping up to be financed through “after sales” in a content infrastructure. We can’t deny that with out the app store the iPad would be a naked canvas, but price of the tablet isn’t dependent on your app store purchases, that’s all gravy to Apple.
The WeTab is coming to market with several collaborations with publishers and they are focused, for the time being, exclusively, with on the German Market. We think that compulsory advertising on a hardware platform will not achieve the desired effect and will simply be jailbroken by users to regain valuable homepage real-estate. WeTab still has time to change its mind, so we’ll keep an eye on this development as the story unfolds.
