Acer has officially launched a their new 10.1 inch Android tablet the Acer Iconia Tab A200 which will be running Nvidia’s Tegra 2 dual core platform. Initially, the tablet will ship with Honeycomb but will quickly be upgraded in January to Android 4.0. According to the press release shipments of the tablet started in November to select countries and these tablets will be running Android 3.2.

The Acer ICONIA TAB A200 is running the 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor with 1GB of RAM with the option for 8Gb or 16GB of storage. The tablet measures 260 x 175 x 12.4 mm which is much thicker than the Transformer Prime which measures 8.3mm. It’s screen resolution is a standard 1280 x 800 and should average 400 hours of stand by and 8 hours of video playback on its 3260mAh battery.The A200 weights in at 720grams which is lighter than the original Transformer which weights 800gm but the Transformer Prime comes in at 586gm.
The ICONIA TAB A200 has a built in UI layer called the Acer Ring which is meant to improve multitasking by creating easy-access apps from any screen. It also features Screenshot, which quickly captures web images, articles, Google Maps and even smiling faces from video calls. Screenshot can be used in any app on any screen and if you wanted you could take some shots of Acer’s Clear.fi in action. Clear.fi is Acer’s own DLNA solution to connect, share and watch media.
If you think that the Acer Ring is familiar you’d be right be actually saw it at Computex back in June running on the MeeGo tablet that never made it to market.
Connectivity wise tablet has a full-size USB port for hooking up other devices and a MicroSD slot for passing data. There is only a 2 MP front facing web camera for face-to-face chats or photo’s, there is no rear facing camera on this device.
There is no word on pricing or which countries the tablet is currently shipping in, but we do know that it will be available in your choice of Titanium Gray or Metallic Red.
