Android of Apple’s iOS? Nielsen reports that 43% of all US mobile subscribers now own a smartphone and 43% of them have a device running the Google OS. The 43% market share represents a 4 percent points increase compared to the Android result in Q2. In fact, Android is the only platform to gain ground over the past three months in the US. Apple has a stable 28% market share which is pretty impressive since they didn’t release a new iPhone in Q3.

BlackBerry has only 18% of the smartphone market in the US which is slipped 2 percent points. Microsoft Windows Phone wasn’t able to maintain market share it actually shifted down to 7% from 9. Its going to be interesting to see what Q4 statistics look like since there have been a series of of new Windows 7 Phones which seem to be gaining traction.
