When Asus pushed an Android 3.2.1 software update to the Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider, a new app called Supernote was quietly installed as well. For people who use their Asus tablets for note-taking in class or meetings, this app may actually be quite a boon.
Very similar to Microsoft OneNote or Microsoft Journal on the Tablet PC, you can mix and match handwriting, typed text, voice recordings, and photos into a note for richer, more complete note-taking. There are many notetaking apps available for Android, but it seems that they all have different feature sets and don’t overlap. Supernote from Asus seems to take the best elements from those other Android apps and combines them into one. Take a look at the demo video from Asus below to get a better feel for the app:
There are a couple of caveats:
You can’t drag and drop notes after they have been created. So you’ll have to organize your notebooks for different subjects or different meetings ahead of time. However, this could probably be fixed with a software update. Also, if you’re not an Asus tablet user, you don’t have access to this app! Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be available in the Android Market for other Android tablet users. So if you’re an Eee Pad Transformer or Slider user (I would assume Supernote will also be available on the upcoming Transformer Prime?), check out Supernote. While it technically falls under the definition of “bloatware”, it seems like it transcends that ugly name and is a truly useful app.
