We first saw Showgun running on the quad-core Nvidia Kal-el processor that we’re expecting to see by the end of this year. To keep us happy while we’re waiting for the new processor to hit the streets MadFinger games, has given us (and a number of other sites – no one has the full version yet, and I mean no one) a pre-release version of the game to try out. Its optimized for Tegra 2 processors and we can expect a Kal-El optimized version to be released when the new processor goes public.
If you like first person shooter games you’re going to be blown away by what this games does on a tablet. The thing is, on top of looking good its got pretty decent game play.

ShadowGun’s best feature is definitely its looks, its the best looking fully-3D-rendered Android game I’ve seen yet. The reason behind this has something to do with NVIDIA’s driver optimization. The character textures in particular are miles ahead of anything else on the Android market, if any game comes to mind with better graphics the first question you should ask if if they are an image or actually rendering. If you think about it, I’m sure you’ll come to the same conclusion I did, that this is the most graphically complex Android game around.
The performance in the game play itself was superb, never a dropped frame or a single stutter. The game ran perfectly smoothly (albeit capped at what looks like 40 FPS) and things never chugged, even with with 5-7 enemies on-screen.
If you really want to get into it, we’ve got a demo below and you’ll see that ShadowGun is very much like Gears of War, but for your phone / tablet. It is pretty much the exact same idea but the universe and the plot-line have been simplified into a touch experience.
