According to the newly released pre-order page at ExcaliberPC – the Asus Eee PC X101 is scheduled to arrive in the US in early September, and at least for now if the ETA doesn’t change, then September 4th. Ignore the actual product images which are clearly of another Eee PC. Originally we heard it was due out in July, which clearly never happened and we heard from Asus in late July that it would arrive in August.
The Asus Eee PC X101 will be among the first (it’s not actually the first) of the sub $200 netbooks ($199 actually) to hit the market, made possible with a cheap Intel Atom N435 processor and MeeGo operating system (and thus free of Windows taxes). Thanks to a 3-cell battery and an 8GB SSD, it should also be slimmer and lighter than most typical 10-inch netbooks. There’s a Windows version of this netbook, the X101H, which is also thicker to accommodate a standard HDD but we’re not sure it’ll retail in the US, despite two appearances at the FCC.
