Amazon is rumored to be coming out with a 7 & a 10 inch tablet, the 7 inch is rumored to be enjoying a release date as early as October. We’ve already heard that Quanta will be assembling the 7″ tablet and Foxconn maybe be getting the 10″ tablet. The display manufacturer has now been revealed as TFT-LCD panel maker Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) to supply touch sensors for use in 7-inch G/G (Glass on Glass) touch panels.

According to Digitimes, Wintek will be the major supplier of ITO touch modules for use in the G/G touch panel, CPT will provide touch sensors for J Touch to make such touch modules. Based on Amazon’s launch plans, 2.0-2.4 million touch panels should be shipped by the end of September and Wintek will account for 70-75% of the volume.

CPT has often been thought of as the bargain basement producer of display, so landing such a contract Amazon seemed a bit surprising to me however, it seems they were helped out by E Ink Holdings. EInk is the main supplier of EPD e-paper used in Amazon e-book reader Kindle. E Ink will become a shareholder of CPT in order to use CPT’s 6G production capacity, which may lead to Amazon tablets using E Ink’s FFS (fringe field switching) technology which is the same display technology as the iPad.
