Forget about Cedar Trail and Medfield for a moment, both upcoming platforms from Intel due out later this year, based on a 32nm manufacturing process and aimed at netbooks and smartphones respectively. If you like to keep a couple of generations ahead – Cover Trail is back in the news, with This is my Next hearing it’s launch will be synced with the Windows 8 launch.

We first heard about Cloverview – the platform that houses the Clover Trail chip – back in April at the same time Intel quietly official-ized Cedar Trail. It’s the next generation after current-gen Oak Trail, also on a 32nm process like the above platforms, that promises to slip under Oak Trail’s 3W TDP.

According to one particular Intel director, the chip will be released just prior the launch of Windows 8 if not along with the OS, which doesn’t have an official launch date but is expected to launch sometime in 2012, mid-year at the earliest. He also says it’ll power more than just tablets – netbooks and slider-hybrid-devices are included too.
