If you’ve been wondering if Vizio’s 8-inch tablet cuts the mustard, then you can rest assured for the time being as Engadget spent a little time with it and found the Android slab to be pretty solid for the $349 price tag that it’ll sell at next month. It has a 1024 x 768 4:3 ratio display, with HDMI out and it’ll ship with Gingerbread with a possible Honeycomb update when its deemed stable enough.

The rep goes over the key selling point of the tablet which is the tablets ability to control your home devices through the built-in IR blaster. Use it to change channels or stop the VCR. Another key marketing point is the user interface is consistent with that seen on Vizio TVs, so your Vizio-loving grandma will be swinging the tablet in no time.

We can of course expect it at Walmart, at least, since we’ve seen numerous leaks, price tags and what not from the retailer.

VCR…. Seriously? This is supposed to be a tech website and you use VCR?  I don’t know anyone who still uses one.  Even my 73 year old grandmother got rid of hers for a DVD player.  Is it because the IR blaster wont work with say a BD player? Anyways I am looking for a decently priced android tablet.  I may have to take a look at this.

That’s what the Vizio rep said! My grandmother still uses a VCR but shes in her 80s.

I agree. VCR? Nobody has those. And if you’re still using your VCR to watch movies on your antiquated tube tv, you’re most likely NOT going to be in the market for a tablet. Come on, now!

Though I’ve been holding out to buy a tab, and this might be the one I pick up. Definitely needs the honeycomb update though. Might even pick up the Via phone and turn in my iPhone…but maybe not.

What a horrible review! He’s actually a salesman or rep for Vizio? Stumbling, rambling presentations don’t do much to sell your product. Why didn’t he show the actual remote app including the VIA buttons? I have a Vizio VIA television and am interested in using this as my remote control, among other things. This review did NOT sell me! UGH!

I forgot: What’s with the screen turning off every 10 seconds or so? He spent a lot of time fumbling with that. I assume the screen can be set to stay on longer?
