If you’re in the market for a tablet you’ll be wondering how the ASUS transformer with the detachable keyboard stacks up against the iPad 2. The Transformer has all the ports you need, including SD and HDMI, while the iPad 2 doesn’t have ports straight out of the box and you’ll have to pay extra for them. In terms of pricing, the cheapest Transformer is 100 bucks cheaper than the entry level iPad 2, $399 vs $499.

You’ll see that the iPad 2 launches apps faster and is more stable than the ASUS Transformer. This is due to the fact that iOS is a more mature operating system then Android. The iPad 2 also has a larger selection of applications although the Honeycomb Android Marketplace section is rapidly increasing. In terms of looks, size and weight, the iPad 2 is again the winner, being thinner and lighter. The Transformer is slimmer, thanks to the 16:10 display, while the iPad 2 has a 4:3 aspect ratio. The iPad 2 has better battery life, as it will go for about 10 hours on a single charge, while the Transformer terminates after about 6 hours of continuous activity.

The video shot by tabletbite.com shows off the two tablets going head to head. In my opinion the iPad 2 offers a better experience but I have an Android handset and rely Google Apps heavily so even though I’m currently lacking the support I need in Android, long term I feel its a more meaningful investment.
