The combination of a high quality display, Wacom digitizer and price really makes the ASUS Eee Slate EP121 attractive, especially to graphic artists. One man has snapped up the EP121 and compared it to his Wacom Cintiq 21UX, in terms of screen quality and responsiveness of course, as the two are worlds apart in terms of size and portability. The EP121 holds it’s own just as easily. In regards to colors – the EP121 has better brightness, contrast and more neutral colors after calibration while the 21UX has a little more color depth and better color saturation (prior to calibration on the EP121)

Screen glare is better on the EP121, despite it being glossy – the 21UX diffuses light over a larger area and makes image details, especially in darker areas, harder to see. Responsiveness and accuracy are pretty much the same for both devices, which is pretty good for both except around the edges were accuracy dips a little. Lastly, there’s the surfaces of both devices which affects the pen experience and comes down to personal preference – the EP121 is smooth glass while the 21UX has some grit to it.

His usage scenario leads to around 2.5 – 4.5 hours of battery life.

Until they change the model from “EP121″ to “ES121″, such mistakes are forgivable.

Hello Peter, this is great. Thanks for doing this. I’ve been watching this thing for months waiting for an artist to review it. Few questions, and i apoligize in advance, how does photoshop run? Say 3000×3000 file with 10 layers, pretty good, major slow down, workable for travel computer? Have you tried illustrator on it? How’s the AI brush tool? Have you tried ZBrush? Maya and 3dMAX, how’s the view port refresh when working on say a 2000 polygon character? Again I apoligize if these are not programs you use. And maybe I should just assume it’s not going to perform well, but my 5 year old centrino can run all of these ok enough as a travel computer so I was just wondering. I think with the new tech in this thing it might really be incrediable. Thank you for your consideration Peter.

I only use Photoshop out of the above and only on desktop computers. I doubt performance would be much of an issue with images of that size – you’d be more worried about disk space with only 32 or 64GB of storage.

Thanks for the vid. Was looking to see if the slate could run photoshop and that you could draw on it, but does it have quick key capabilities? Thanks again for the vid though. The slate is really starting to peek my interest.

    Thank you very much.
I was looking for someone to show a type of comparison like this.
I live in Mexico and there’s no way to experience this products until they become popular.
I still have an Asus lap top, i bought it on 2004 still running, great performance and thatá why i truly believe in this brand. They build high quality products, but i said before in something that cost 1000 USD you’d better read before getting one of this.

I’m a transportation designer and i was about to buy a cintiq or an Ipad but I will definitely buy this one.

    Thanks for the review!

Thanks a lot for this video. Since I have my Cintic 21ux (newest version) I am in love with it. I also had the 12wx version with pressure sensitivity with 1024 levels, but I wasn’t confident. I need the much higher pressure sensitivity for my sketches from the new cintic. Do you know how many pressure levels the eee slate has? And does it have tilt sensitivity? And can only the pen from the slate be used on the slate or is it possible to use the cintiq or intuos pen also?
I also had a HP Pavilion with touch and pen function, but it had an extremly exhausting foil on the screen, which made the display, how should I describe it, sandy (?). The light of every pixel was refracted, awful. Does the slate display look like any other display?
    Thank you so much!
