A couple of products were rumored about today, but both ended up being pretty much just that. First was a tip from Fox News about a trio of HP Slate “spin-off” tablets, loaded with webOS, all making an early appearance at CES 2011, then there was the appearance of a Sony tablet PC at the FCC.

We’ll get Sony’s out of the way first. Engadget’s “proven” source says the FCC filing showing a single image, b/g/n WiFi and a few PCG model numbers, is just a mislabeled Vaio Y series notebook and that there won’t be any VAIO tablet making an appearance in a couple of weeks.

Those HP webOS tablets are highly suspect since the leaked image is exactly the same as the one for the HP Slate 500. That and there has been none of the usual press announcements or invitations that get sent out when HP gets ready for a big event. Clearly suspect are the tablets having the same chassis as the Slate 500 with the same Ctrl + Alt + Del button (in addition to having a Pre-like “multi-switch”). Other rumored specs – they’ll be thinner than the iPad, weigh 1.25 pounds, have mini HDMI and USB 3.0, 1.3MP front and 3.0MP rear cameras and one will have a 9.7-inch display.
