Netbooks Picking Up Speed! Atom N450 & N470 Support DDR3 RAM

December 17, 2009 by Nicole Scott

The Intel Pineview Atom N450 (1.66GHz) & N470 (1.83GHz) processors for next years line up of netbooks will be popping up with DDR2 RAM next year are still using DDR2 RAM, BUT Intel is planning to release N45x and N47x models that will support DDR3 RAM as well as DDR2 RAM.

Right now Taiwan manufacturers have created an artificial shortage to drive up the prices of Memory for the Christmas season. DDR3 RAM will provide a performance boost to this low power consumption CPU & since this shortage is supposed to be artificial we will see prices return to normal, but sadly DDR3 will still be a little more than DDR2. Atom has a reputation for being easy on the battery DDR3 will draw bit more power. The TDP goes up from 5.5W -> 6.5W for the N450x, the same TDP as the N470. (TDP of N47x not mentioned)

Intel is supposed to starting production of the N470 mid-January. We still have yet to confirm a launch date for the N470 which will be priced $20 more than the N450 processor.
