Pixel Qi displays have been selling since early this year, over at Makershed.com for $275 and enough time has passed that a compatibility list has popped up on the web. This isn’t just a simple five minute in and out job as Mary Lou once put it (for pros, at that). There are a few other things that need to be considered which is why there’s a compatibility list out there in the first place.

From our Pixel Qi hands on video at CES 2010 at the start of this year.

First, the connector on the Pixel Qi display needs to be compatible with the one in your netbook once the display even fits into the chassis and second, not all netbooks can have the backlight completely disabled, in order to use the transflective Pixel Qi mode. There also seems to be issues with touchscreens but I’m not sure why that is.

The compatibility list shows that Samsung netbooks are quite compatible – the Samsung NB30, N130 and N220 Plus all work without problems, some being able to have the backlight turned off. Some netbooks work but have issues with backlight deactivation – The Dell Mini 10v and HP Mini 5102. The latter netbook’s backlight only goes down to 10%, for example. Then there’s those that connector issues – the ASUS Eee PC 1000HA / HE / 1005HA, Lenovo S10e and Samsung N230 (Pixel Qi doesn’t fit in the chassis, but a thinner version of the screen is coming Q1 2011) or those that have issues due to touchscreens – the Gigabyte TouchNote T1028 and Lenovo S10-3t.

Anyone hacked up a Pixel Qi display into their netbooks yet? Thinking of getting one?

Bummer about the S10-3T not being compatible. I’m sure a lot of people would have liked both the Pixel Qi and touch enabled screen.
