We’ve arrived in Hong Kong for GSM 2010 and the first thing we did was hit the show floor in hunt for gadgets, of which there were a few of note. First up was the NEC Cloud Communicator – a 7-inch Android tablet. If you’ve been following tablets then you’ve certainly seen it before as it has already launched in Japan. As we’ve heard, the tablet is aimed at businesses, corporations, enterprise and not for the average consumer and this is reflected in the underwhelming design – it’s kind of cheap looking but we liked the hardware buttons and the stylus that tucks away into the top right corner.
It comes with a 600MHz Cortex-A8 processor and Android 2.1 but we were told there would be an upgrades to a 1GHz processor and later versions of Android (2.2 and 3.0). The specs – 7-Inch 800 x 480 resistive touchscreen, Android 2.1, ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, front facing 3.0MP camera, GPS, light and g-sensors and optional 3G, IR. Ports – SD Card (for main storage), mini USB, USB 2.0, headphone and docking port.
