LaptopMag has a review out on the new Acer Aspire One D255 with a dual core Atom N550 processor. The chassis is the same as older models so if you’re familar with their flat chiclet keys then you’ll know what to expect – LaptopMag found it slightly flexy and cramped although they maintained good typing speed since the keys are large. Good viewing angles on the display and the machine stayed cool even pumping out HD video, now possible out of the box thanks to the dual core Atom N550 processor which now enables 720p Flash video. Strangely enough they couldn’t get HD quicktime video working smoothly.
Battery life is excellent at 8 hours, 14 mins. Non-US models will also come with an optional Android 1.6 install but it’s “largely disappointing”. We’ve seen Android 1.6 before on an older Acer Aspire One D250 and it was rather pathetic, no ones going to bother using that. As we’ve seen at HSN.com (no longer available), the Acer Aspire One D255 is priced at $349. I’m still not seeing it sold anywhere. Amazon.com has pre-orders up for a single-core D255 priced at $270 but no dual core models.
