The business laptop for high earning office workers and busy executives.

Dell Latitude 7390 (2018, YCC64)
If you walk around and sit in your office the whole day, the Latitude 7390 can become your perfect companion. It can run for 10-12 hours in a single charge, and it's lightweight—a workhorse built for hard workers.

The Good

It’s a high spec 2-in-1 laptop with a low power processor. Low powered it may be, it is still an 8th gen i7 that can perform almost everything except running modern AAA games and 4k video editing and rendering.

The Bad

It’s just too pricey, and if you want more performance, you can only get a gaming laptop at the same price. Nonetheless, you can still bank on its battery life and reliable components to assure you that you can always use this machine even after ten years of usage.

Detailed Review Of Dell Latitude 7390 (2018, YCC64)

Most often than not, busy people don’t have time to look around for reviews. If you can buy the most expensive out of the bunch without blinking an eye, nobody will blame you. Your time is precious, and every second you waste is a dollar thrown to the curb.

Despite all of those, you’re still here. And it means that you care about the products you choose, buy, and use. You believe that you only deserve the best, and you’re the only one who can judge what it is.

In this review, we’ll tackle Dell Latitude 7390, one of Dell’s best laptops. You’ll see if this is the right one for you. Or you’ll know if you’ll need to reconsider.

Processor: Intel Core i7 (8th Gen) 8650U 1.9 GHz~4.2 GHz | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 | Storage: 512 GB – M.2 SSD | Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 620 | Display: 13.3-inch WLED 1920 x 1080 FHD | Operating System: Windows 10 Pro | Battery Life: 12 hours | Weight: Windows 10 Pro | Other Features: Stylus

A Low Power Performance Machine

You can say that the 8650U can provide the right amount of processing power to let this laptop accommodate the most commonly used laptop applications. With it, you can create 3D models, manipulate high-resolution images, and even play some old and non-demanding games.

But never push it to become a gaming laptop or a 4k movie editing machine. Note that the core strength of the Dell Latitude 7390 is its battery life. It can last you 10 to 12 hours of operations in a single charge.

An additional note about the battery life: you can further extend it if you have a battery bank available. This 2-in-1 has Thunderbolt on it, so you can just plug most battery banks out there.

The main reason it can accomplish such a feat is that the processor has a low TDP (Thermal Design Power). It’s only around 15 watts. Note that standard desktop processors have a TDP of about 65 to 85 watts. Medium powered laptop processors have 45 watts.

The Intel UHD 620 is a standard internal graphics that most i7 laptops have. You can easily watch or stream 4k videos with it.

Quality Core Components

It’s not surprising that this laptop has a 16GB RAM on it. Note that the Latitude series is Dell’s line of business laptops. Just to let you know, the Latitude’s counterparts from other manufacturers are ThinkPad (Lenovo), EliteBook (HP), and TravelMate (Acer).

Put in mind that the essential aspects of a business laptop are CPU and RAM. After all, most business programs are mostly massive in processing extensive amounts of data. And you should know that most of these applications run in Internet browsers, which are very hungry memory hogs.

If you’re going to use this for personal use, you won’t find it lacking. To be honest, it’s a bit too much. Even a mid-range gamer may not find any use for 16GB RAM.

Overall Impression

Unlike reviewing other laptop products, reviewing business laptops is a fast and straightforward process. As long as you get what you want, you won’t care anymore about other shenanigans and bells and whistles. This laptop doesn’t have any of those.

In terms of appearance, there’s nothing to say much about the Latitude 7390. It’s black, sleek, beautiful, and it doesn’t have any fancy and artsy design. After all, its primary target audience is office workers and upper management.

Latitude laptops and 2-in-1s enable all-day productivity with the most secure and manageable features, all in a beautiful design you will be proud to carry

The monitor’s size is perfect for a 2-in-1 laptop. It’s a touchscreen, of course, and you can use a stylus to write on it. The touchscreen is pressure-sensitive, and it highly improves the writing experience. It’s perfect for taking notes or taking your employees or subordinates’ signatures for work and legal purposes (of course).

On the other hand, if you are in the art industry, you will surely appreciate its writing and drawing function. If Dell will throw in some free graphics software, this whole package becomes too perfect even for you. Or you can just look at our list of the best laptops for artists.

Going back to the screen, it also has a matte finish and scratch-resistant. The last thing you would see on it is a set of fingerprint grease. Unfortunately, it’s a different story when it comes to the plastic finish.

Another thing to note is the hinges are stiff. You won’t need to worry about the screen wobbling whenever you type on the keyboard. And you definitely won’t be anxious to switch from laptop, tent, and tablet form every so often.

Aside from its massive RAM, it also has a high-performance and high-capacity storage device. Instead of waiting a minute for your Windows operating system to boot, you will only need to wait a few seconds thanks to its M.2 SSD.

In addition to its speed, it also has a capacity of 512 GB. To put it into perspective, you can store up to 150 HD movie files in this thing. And that’s a modest estimate, to be honest.

Lastly, the Latitude 7390 also has a standard weight for 2-in-1s and laptops in general. It’s just playing around 3.1 lbs., which allows it to be carried around the whole day while monitoring or going around your office.

Critic Reviews

PCMag.com: 3.5 / 5.0

Dell’s 13.3-inch Latitude 7390 business laptop is compact and lightweight, with good fit and finish, but its steep price magnifies its minor flaws.

LaptopMag.com: 3.5 / 5.0

You should consider the Dell Latitude 7390 for strong performance and a long-lasting battery, but its low-travel keyboard and fans that run often should give you pause.

CNET.com: 4.0 / 5.0

The Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1 puts a lot of data protection features into an unassuming pen-enabled convertible design that’s available in a variety of configurations to meet your work and budget needs. Battery life is excellent at more than 10 hours, and you can power it using an external battery pack via its Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Buy It If…

Reliability is the keyword here. Dell has a reputation for producing business desktops and laptops over the years. Their products before were renowned for being very sturdy.

If you owned an old Dell desktop or laptop, you should know that and the fact that they are over the top when it comes to durability (old models were huge and contained a lot of metal parts).

However, this is one of the lightest machines they produced, and you can still feel that it’s solid as a rock. This laptop also has decent processing power despite the low-power consuming processor and contains components usually reserved for mid-range gaming rigs. If you want a computer that will last you five to ten years, this is the one for you.

Don’t Buy It If…

The price. We know that this is for people who need reliable business laptops in their work, but come on, Dell.

We also know that the monitor, SSD, and the RAM you placed in this machine are somewhat on the higher end of the spectrum. However, it has an explicit limitation, which is the processor.

You can only do so much with it. That processor can indeed accomplish the long battery life and performance you promised, but you would instead buy a gaming laptop and get better mileage at its price mark.
