Eee PC knockoff with ION but without a battery or wireless HDMI
January 26, 2010
We are a big fan of the Eee Keyboard and we’ve been waiting a year for this puppy to come to market, so its not surprising that Great Wall Cross has come out with the PC U510. Its got the same PC-in-a-keyboard style deign as the Eee PC, complete with a touchscreen display on the right side of the keyboard.
ASUS’ Eee Keyboard plans on using a media coprocessor of some sort to enable HD video output with the Atom processor and integrated graphics. The U510 features NVIDIA ION graphics which means the keyboard PC should be able to handle not just 1080p HD video, but also some 3D video gaming tasks.
The Eee Keyboard knock off will still be using a 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 2G of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. This is significantly more storage space than the 16GB SSD Asus plans to include in the Eee Keyboard.
We have to wonder how exactlay Creat Wall Cross is planning on having this device exist in the home eco system. The Eee Keyboards primary function is supposed to be a home media device and we are sure that they have increased the performance but that they haven’t mastered the experience. The U510 has no battery, which means it’ll need to remain plugged in during operation. And say goodbye to that wireless connection to an external display. The U510 requires a physical connection to your monitor or TV. So make sure you don’t have a few drinks in your living room because there will be a nest of cords to trip you up.
The keyboard PC will sell for about $570 in China.
