MeeGo Tablet at Computex

IDF Beijing did happen back in April in Beijing, so I guess its not shocking that Red Flag Software has just shown off a custom MeeGo tablet for the China market. There are no pictures or videos, but what we do know is that the NPad will be powered by Moorestown. The 10.1-inch touchscreen tablet is meant to “looks like” the iPad with WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, and GPS. Price point or release date are still a mystery but it supposed to be cheaper then the iPad.

Pandigital Novel Tablet/eReader Hands on Video

June 25, 2010

pandigital novel tablet

Joanna over at Engadget has gotten her hands on Pandigital’s Novel a 7-inch LCD based all plastic e-reader / tablet that demonstrates you get what you pay for $149. Its quality its top notch and it seems a bit heavy but does run Android 2.1 and an attractive UI although snappy would not be the word you would use to describe it. Surprisingly, the device did play a standard definition video smoothly and it has an accelerometer. Software wise it comes preloaded with the Barnes & Noble’s Android app and a skinned Android browser of some sort.

Joanna has shot a quick hands on video for your enjoyment below or if you wanted to see her complete photo gallery click here.

Fujitsu Raises The Bar On Colour E-Paper

May 10, 2010

new fujitsu color e-paper

Colour paper arrived in 2007 but it hasn’t really been good enough, until now. Fujitsu has been pioneering this field and after 3 years is coming with colour e-paper display of decent quality. The technology will be shown off this week at Fujitsu Forum 2010 (May 13 – 14 at Tokyo International Forum) and is expected in Japanese market in e-book readers and advertising billboards by Q3 this year.

The new colour e-paper has been extensively redesigned and offers 1.3 times brighter colour than its previous attempt, and an improved contrast ratio of 7:1 which is a 3x improvement. If you are wondering what the refresh rate is when yo are turning pages, you’ll get re-write speed’s of 0.7 seconds & smooth image transitions.

According the Fujitsu this sets a benchmark for colour E-Paper. We are actually unsure of this statement as the E-Paper enters into direct competition with Qualcomm’s Mirasol Mems technology. Which clearly offers a more vibrant image, however, Mirasol can also handle video, which guarantees a higher price then Fujitu’s colour E-Paper.

No word yet on the power consumption of the new colour E-Paper, we will keep an eye out for more details when the product actually goes on display this week.

Which Gadget to Get Your Mom for Mother’s Day

April 30, 2010

Found this on my morning YouTube search today. Great 2 Min video about which device to get your mom for Mother’s day based on her level of comfort with technology products.

One of the key things with mom’s, well my mom anyways, she’s not tech savy, but she’s on the road for work. A netbook changed her work habits because she was more productive on the go. But I did take the time to show her all the other devices, even though she likes to read her comment on the kindle was, but it doesn’t smell like paper. Oddly enough a deal breaker for her, I gave her the argument about light weight media, having thousands of books at the palm of her hand, but even though this should have been the ideal gift, it clearly wasn’t.

So for mother’s, the strange wonderful and lovely creatures that they are, spend sometime with them, take them out and show them the gadgets. The look on their face and the questions they ask should be indication enough as to which gadget you should be picking them up.
