Eee PC Showdown – T101MT vs T91

April 28, 2010

ASUS has released two tablet netbook in the last 12 months: the 9-inch Eee PC T91 and 10-inch Eee PC T101MT.

Comparing the two models the biggest difference is structural changes, a sort of maturity can be seen in the newer model. ASUS was always clear that the T91 was an experimental model, a kind of testing bed to better understand how to develop a tablet netbook for the best user experience. This is not to say that the former is a poor product, rather it is lighter, smaller, certainly more comfortable to carry around and a lot more geeky. But when it comes to a long-term use the larger keyboard and an upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium and Eeepc.it claims that the T101MT is the obvious choice.

Below you’ll find the video comparison from EeePc.it below. Its good to see how the performance has improved and you get a great idea of exactly how the two units differ. You’ll find the specs for both units below the video.

Flash 10.1 Beta 3: Support added for Intel GMA 500 & Broadcom Crystal HD

February 25, 2010

flash10p1-beta3-600x400

Hallelujah!!! Flash Player 10.1 Beta 3 is here bringing hardware video acceleration to owners of netbooks with Intel GMA 500 graphics. This should make Hulu and YouTube HD usable on machines like the ASUS Eee PC T91MT, Sony VAIO P & VAIO X, the Nokia Booklet 3G, and previous-generation Dell Mini 10. Flash 10.1 beta 3 also supports the Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator found in Pine Trail Atom machines like the newest Dell Mini 10 and HP Mini 210. Engadget reviewed it on the HP Mini 210 and it managed 720p YouTube, although 1080p was a no-go. Remember this is still BETA 3, so we’ll see what happens when Broadcom releases an soon to be expected driver update. For now you should all get downloading and let us know how it’s going in comments.

ASUS Eee PC T101H gets detailed

July 10, 2009

AsusTablet has scored another exclusive, as the site has been given the full low down of the Eee PC T101H which is Asus’ 10-inch version of the T91. Apart from the larger display, the T101H isn’t that different from the T91, but there only seem to be a single SKU as of right now and it’s loaded with goodies.

The downside of the T101H is the Atom Z520 CPU which runs at 1.33GHz, as well as the Intel US15W chipset with the underwhelming GMA 500 integrated graphics. Beyond this the T101H has 1GB of memory (upgradeable to 2GB), a 16GB SSD and an additional 16GB SD card for extra storage, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, a 0.3Megapixel webcam and 20GB of online storage for 18 months.

However, it doesn’t stop here, as with the top of the range T91 model, Asus have added a GPS receiver, a digital TV-tuner (DVB-T) and most importantly a built in 3G modem. At 1.5kg the T101H is heavy compared to most netbooks, although its battery life is rated at the same 5.4h as the T91 and it seems to use the same type of Lithium-Polymer battery.

The T101H is said to ship with Windows 7, but oddly enough Asus UK seems to be suggesting that the T101H will ship towards the end of August or early September, so it’s more like that it’ll come with Windows Vista and a free upgrade to Windows 7.

Asus will have three T91 models

July 7, 2009

Asus Eee PC T91According to Asustablet.com, Asus UK has let slip that the company will have three different Eee PC T91 models. The three models are the T91, T91A and T91 go with the last model being the most interesting in our opinion.

The T91 is the most basic version and it’s the one that’s been touted so far. It features a single touch 8.9-inch LCD display with 1,024×600 resolution, an Atom Z520 processor at 1.33GHz, 1GB of RAM, the Intel US15W chipset with GMA500 graphics, a 16GB SSD with the addition of a 16GB SD card for additional storage, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, a 0.3Megapixel webcam and Windows XP Home.

The T91A is the model Nicole spotted at Computex which features a resistive multi-touch display. This model also comes with Windows 7, so judging by the official launch date of Windows 7, we’ll have to wait until October for this model.

Finally we have the T91 go which adds three things to the standard module. 1. GPS, 2. a 3G modem and 3. a TV-tuner module. There’s no word on what kind of 3G module Asus will supply, but the TV-tuner is DVB-T. These extra options also increase the weight of the T91 go from 960 grams to 1.02kg.

All three models come with a Lithium-Polymer batter that is rated at 5.4h of usage. They also come with 18 months of online storage for free and Asus are supplying a generous 20GB’s of space.
