Last month we spotted ASUS’s latest dual core Atom D525 ION 2 nettop – The Eee Box EB1501P up for preorder in the UK and Europe priced at 395 pounds and 449 euros respectively. Well, it’s now available and shipping in the US, priced at $520. Newegg has it in stock but Amazon is out of stock.

Specs listed – Intel Atom D525 processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB 5400 RPM HDD, Multi DVD-RW, Nvidia ION 2 (GT218), Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi n and Windows 7 Home Premium. Peripherals include a wireless keyboard and mouse set, VESA mount and a remote control. Ports – SDXC card slot, VGA, HDMI.

Quite pricey and I would really just recommend getting an older Atom D510 / ION 2 based nettop – pretty much identical performance in a much cheaper package.

its clear that prices are skyrocketing for nettops! you could get a 1215n netbook with almost identical specs for $499 & have dual functionality. i know nettops have been a flop in the market place but raising their prices isnt going to help sales.

its funny to because nettops take alot less R&D than netbooks.

Yeah the price baffles me.. maybe a premium on the dual core D525? I don’t know…

i understand why some of the others with Blu-Ray cost alot more, but this makes no sense.

Price is puzzling indeed. I am grateful for the peripherals – don’t have the room to store old gadgets!
