We’ve been expecting ASUS’ Lamborghini VX6 sports rebrand of the ASUS Eee PC 1215N 12-incher to arrive very soon since we saw it up for preorder at ExcaliberPC.com for $699.

Turns out the Lamborghini VX6 is drawing close to a release in India and TechTree India have just published their review of the upcoming 12-incher today. There are a few worrying factors – they noted and confirmed with ASUS that there’s no Nvidia Optimus on board – so battery life won’t be that good. Actually battery life seemed very poor – they got 1.5 hours with 720p video playback and 100% brightness on the provided 5,200 mAh 56Wh 6-cell battery.

Other than those, everything was as expected. There’s high quality audio through the Bang & Olufsen ICE Power driven speakers, flawless 1080p HD video performance, good build quality and passable performance with 3D games on the lowest settings.

Recapping the specs – 12.1″ 1366 x 768 display, Intel Atom D525 processor (1.8GHz), Nvidia ION 2 graphics, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD, 2x USB 3.0, 802.11n Wi-Fi, 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth 3.0, HDMI, VGA and Windows 7 Home Premium. No word on whether the card slot will have SDXC support like we see at ExcaliberPC.com.

That’s insane. I have this Asus right here on my desk and i can assure you there’s Optimus inside. Will post a review myself soon. Still, i’m pretty sure their device was a test unit or they messed up drivers, otherwise I can’t see why they claim there’s no Optimus with this one…

Yeah I am not sure what’s up with that. They’ve certainly got a test unit as they mentioned straight off. I can’t see this selling without Optimus.

  • Mike

Yea. They do say they confirmed this with Asus, that makes it even weirder since I have Optimus on my unit. It would be odd to sell it with Optimus on some markets and without on others…

if this is so its no wonder the battery drained so fast as the D525 + ION16 would drain 26w alone, the rest of the PC would bring it up into 30w range. this is all without any kind of speedstep or idle, most netbooks & CULV idle around 7-10w.

would love to see that review Mike when you get it up, i hope Peter will link to it along with other review round ups.

my main questions surround ION … can ION be always on/off or is it always auto? if plugged in is it always on? if i’m connected to an external HD monitor & it switches to Intel gfx what happens (ION supports upto 25×16, Intel only 14×9)?

I’m not sure if you can make it always ON when plugged in, it doesn’t work like this by default but there might be some tweaks for IT.

However, when connected to an external screen via HDMI, it will always use the Nvidia CHIP, mainly because of the hardware limitations for the GMA 3150 (resolution up to 1440 x 900 if not mistaken, and others)

would have been nice if it had those off/on/auto options & a little systray icon to control them.

do you know how many RAM slots it has & what config it comes with (ie 1x2GB, 2x1GB, etc)

at 1 time i was a little worried about having to rely on NV driver support since the original ION was kind of a flop, but ION2 seems to be popping up everywhere so hopefully NV is committed to treating its customers right.
