A breath of fresh air in between the flood of tablet news we’ve been seeing. New netbooks! Sort of. HP’s latest netbook models, the Mini 210 and the Mini 5103 have been officially announced with Intel’s newest Atom N550 dual core processor, the latter we’ve seen listed previously at one store.
First, the Mini 210 comes with a refreshed design. It still sports the same chiclet keyboard and trackpad from the older series. The battery is completely integrated and is removable. The new design still allows you to access the insides to get to your hard drive and RAM. The usual goodies are there like the Broadcom Crystal HD card for 1080p video playback.
As for the business oriented Mini 5103 there’s no visual change. It’s exactly the same as the older Mini 5102. What is new however is the dual core processor option, a new “espresso” color and a new instant OS called “Day Starter”. HP says the new dual core processor improves performance by up to 20%.
Price starts at $330 for a single cored Mini 210 with a 6-cell battery with the dual core Atom N550 processor adding about $75. The Mini 5103 will be priced from $399 – that doesn’t include the dual core processor in the price. They should pop up at HP.com any time now.
