Mobile Phones are a hot topic these days, you can’t visit Engadget without being subjected to 40% Smartphone news. Although it is understandably since consumers are finally taking smartphones into main stream adoption. With the smartphone market in the US finally poised to take off Intel has its sights on ARM who is predominantly found in today’s range of smartphones.
Justin Rattner, CTO at Intel, told Reuters in an interview Tuesday that its upcoming Moorestown processor will “equal” ARM’s processors in terms of standby power.
Medfield which is the next-generation chip after Moorestown, will equal ARM’s chips on active power, he added. “I expect us to just pull away after that because we have a fundamental technology advantage, which [ARM] does not have,” said the CTO.
We’ve seen Moorsetown running World of War Craft just a few months ago, which obviously offers more performance than ARM’s Cortex A8 & A9 platforms. But where Moorsetown reportedly pulls ahead is power management which offers the most aggressive of its class.
