We had the $35 tablet last month, this month we’ve got a $50 tablet, the price might not be going down but the volume of sub $100 tablets seems to be ramping up. What makes this post very interesting in terms of looking at the Indian market is that Freescale has pushed this low cost solution to India first. The Freescale tablet in question was produced by a Bangalore-based company called Allgo Systems, the platform is known as the ‘Stamp’.

The Guy’s over at Shanzai.com have noted that this is the first Freescale tablet they’ve seen rollout in in the low cost tablet platform. We’d have to agree, we’ve seen a few freescale tablets, the kitchen PC being the most mainstream in the western market (France). But you’re more curious about seeing the tablet in action, so enjoy the video and the units specs are below.

The Stamp platform from Allgo features includes:
Android 2.1 (Eclair) ported on i.MX23 based platform
Support for upto WVGA LCD
Touchscreen / keypad support
Audio playback from internal flash memory and SD-card
MPEG-4 / H.264 Video playback
Android USB gadget (Mass storage) support
Web browsing over WiFi network
FM Radio
Sound Recording
Boot from NAND or SD-card
Other Android applications Alarm Clock, Calender, etc.

Most of the $100-$150 tablets coming out of China have been on VIA, Telechip or Rockchip SoCs, Freescale hasn’t been a player until today. The i.MX233 has an ARM9 core at max of 454MHz, we grabbed this block diagram from the guys at Shanzai.com just incase that tickles your fancy.
