NEC LaVie Light LiuNEC Japan has launched yet another netbook, although this one differ in a very unique way, as NEC offers a special add-on card for your desktop PC that allows you to control your PC remotely over a VNC (Virtual Network Computing) connection.

Feature wise, the LaVie Light Lui BR330/TA is very similar to the LaVie Light BL350 and its using the same chassis design. The basic spec include an Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, three USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port a D-sub connector and a SD card slot. The display measures 10.1-inches and offers a resolution of 1,024×600 pixels. The 6-cell battery is rated at 8.5h.

However, what is interesting about this model is the software it comes with and the hardware solution you can add to your PC which allows you to take full control of your desktop system remotley. There are two types of cards that slot into your PC, either a full height or a half height PCI card. The cards are connected to the various ports on your system and take care of all the necessary processing before the data is sent out of the internet and as such you shouldn’t see any slowdown on the desktop system when the VNC connection is active.

This is an innovative feature, but we’re not sure how many people would be willing to part for the cash that NEC is asking for this solution as the netbook itself is priced at around €500/700 and you’ll have to add another €300/$415 for the VNC card that goes into your PC.
