Did you know that Uruguay has already give one laptop per child for every kid between 6-12 years old? And that they now want to start providing them to older kids age 12-15. If you have ever played with this pint sized PCs you’ll know they aren’t very adult friendly for typing. This is why we now have the OLPC XO-1.5 HS with the upgraded keyboard. We have a video below if you want to check that out.

The netbook for kids is running the VIA C7 processor but the next release is looking to sport a Marvell CPU and may also get a 8.9” touch screen. If this wasn’t enough to spark your interest OLPC is full at work on getting their XO-3 tablet design on display at CES.

What is also interesting is future versions are looking to incorporate ARM and Pixel Qi Screen technology. In case you missed it, Pixel Q1 is a low power consumption display technology which is viewable in direct sunlight. The aim to roll on an a more cost efficient ARM CPU vs. the projected Marvell might offset the higher cost of the Pixel Qi screen.

Remember that OLPC is full at work on OLPC XO-1.75 which is a Marvell Armada powered OLPC laptop, which may also get a 8.9″ touch screen. And that OLPC is also full at work with Marvell to release the XO-3 tablet design by next CES.
