While we haven’t got an official word for the ASUS Eee PC 1215N release in the US, we’ve seen shop listings over at ExcaliberPC mention a shipping date at the end of August. In Europe it’s officially shipping at the start of September. In the UK, it is now possible to pre-order over at Amazon UK (black or silver) priced at £429.00 with a shipping estimate of 7th September.

The specs listed: 12.1″ 1366 x 768 display, Intel Atom D525 processor (dual core, 1.8 GHz), Nvidia ION 2 graphics, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Bluetooth 3.0, webcam, 7 hours battery and Windows 7 Home Premium. It’ll also come with Nvidia Optimus for saving on battery life.

will this have the 8 or 16 ION? i am assuming the 16 right?

i wonder how it performs in comparison to the core i-based laptops. truth is, if an app isnt programed to take advantage of dual core then it will still run like a typical Atom machine.

i also wonder how a netbook with nettop specs (Atom dualcore D-series & ION16) performs in comparison to a standard highend netbook (Atom dualcore N-series & ION8)?

Yes, will definitely be the 16 core version. Dual core Atom N netbooks are still not available yet but looking at the only available benchmark that was released a little while ago, the N550 is just an incremental improvement over the current D510 processor. I don't expect there to be much difference between those two combinations of specs you mentioned. For non-gaming stuff, the Core i series will easily perform much better and recommended.
