Archos is preparing for the imminent launch of a new tablet with an especially large screen. The device, called Archos FamilyPad, has now surfaced at the U.S. communications regulatory FCC. The tablet looks anything but compact because it will come with a huge 13.3-inch display. Archos will be only the second manufacturer to offer such a large tablet. Toshiba has the dubious honor of being the only manufacturer to make a similar device, the Excite 13. In terms of performance you should probably not expect miracles here, because the FamilyPad will come with an AllWinner A10 processor.
It is a single core ARM Cortex-A8 processor with 1.5 GHz clock rate, which is usually installed in cheaper tablets. This seems to indicate that the Archos FamilyPad should not cost all that much. Other features include 8 or 16 GB of internal memory, Wi-Fi, an SD card slot and at least two USB ports and a front camera. It is still unknown when the FamilyPad will come on the market, but it will be sooner rather than later.
