Since MeeGo was announced at CES at the beginning of this year they have been hitting milestones in a fast and furious manner. Yes it might be the love child of Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Meamo but this Linux based operating system is rolling out for on netbooks first then tablets, smartphones, and in-vehicle entertainment. From what we have seen so far each version of MeeGo is highly customized to its hardware platform. So we aren’t surprised to see that MeeGo IVI for in-vehicle-infotainment systems has a program launcher interface that is touch but takes into account the fact that you’ll be concentrating on things like the road or your screaming kids.

Once you get into the applications like the Fennec web browser, text editor, and other apps they aren’t customized for use while you are driving, but hey this has just been made available for developers to play with, so we’ll give it a month or two before we pass judgment to harshly on this flaw.

Another thing that we think we should point out is that though this is available for developers now, it will most likely be 5 years before we see it running in cars. If you remember those crazy cars from a few years ago that acted out on their own thanks to additional electronics in the car. Manufacturers now have a lengthy validation process for allowing new tech into their vehicles. So developers have time to perfect their applications.

If you wanted to check out MeeGo for in vehicle entertainment for your self, here it is below.
