If a smartphone or tablet manufacturer wants to make a display that can withstand a lot of pressure and take a real beating, chances are they use Corning Gorilla Glass. Corning already improved upon the first Gorilla Glass with the scratch resistant and very durable Gorilla Glass 2. Now Corning wants to take its achievements a few steps further with Willow Glass.

Willow Glass should be as robust as Gorilla Glass, but the attraction of the new glass is its wafer thin, flexible design. One sheet is as thin as 0.1 mm, basically, its like a sheet of paper. In addition, it is very flexible. For manufacturers of tablets and smartphones, it means that strength doesn’t have to be bulky. So we can look forward to exciting new glass thanks to Willow Designs. The very thin glass will also reduce the weight devices, contributing to the trend towards ever lighter and thinner devices.

The first samples are already on their way. the new Corning Willow Glass is something very interesting to look forward to.
