Notion Ink Adam “on track,” gets funding, looks at hardware variants

Rumors of the Notion Ink Adam being released and being put on hold have been around for months now. We’ve all be waiting with baited breath for this tablet over many others because it was rumored to be shipping with a Pixel Qi screen and Nvidia Tegra 2. We now a spec sheet from Notion Ink and word that it will be shipping in November. The rumor here was that they have constantly been changing the spec sheet to pressure various Taiwanese manufacturers to pick up the order, I haven’t heard if this is what’s going on here, but fingers crossed they keep their word on this press release. What’s news worthy about this spec sheet is that its coming with a SIM card slot supporting the GSM networks, not just data over EDGE or HSPA. The addition raises the possibility that it will also have voice calling capabilities, like the Dell Streak tablet. The sheet reconfirms that the Adam will be available with either a Pixel Qi and a more traditional LCD screen.

The spec sheet otherwise confirms core details, such as the NVIDIA Tegra 250 dual-core ARM chip. The Adam will get a swiveling 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with stereo audio and assisted GPS functionality, among other specs. While this isn’t reflected on the spec sheet, Notion Ink earlier said the tablet will ship with no later than Android 2.2 preloaded.

An initial release date and a price for the device remain unknown, but it should ship to at least some countries by November.
