Key members of the MeeGo team left Nokia last week essentially sealing the fate of the open source operating system.  And then Finnish stat up Jolla confirmed that it’s planning carrying the torch of this once loved Intel Nokia love child. The company includes important members of the N9 team as well as veterans of the unofficial MeeGo community.  They are planning on more than just an iteration MeeGo and will also be building hardware to go along with it. MeeGo will be getting a few major changes as the Jolla team will be basing their work on the HTML5 driven Mer Project so expect a “brand new UI” to go with the new smartphone.

The team has been working on the phone since late 2011 with plans to show its work later this year. Exciting times in open source.
