Back in April this year, after numerous delays ASUS finally released the Eee Keyboard – 2 years in the making. Bit-tech has reviewed the netbook-in-a-keyboard and deems it a jack of all trades but master of none and that for the price, there are a wealth of cheaper, better working alternatives out there.
Thanks to the Broadcom Crystal HD card built in, 720p HD video is possible, even via HDMI or wireless output to the big screen. However, they could not get high bit-rate HD videos / Flash playing smoothly – possibly a limit of the Broadcom card.
There were mixed feelings about the interface on the keyboard. The capacitive 5-inch touchscreen is responsive but the viewing angles are poor and the customized Windows XP interface on board tries to do too much.
The 1GB of DDR2 RAM on board is soldered on and cannot be upgraded. Battery life is rated at 4 hours with it’s 4,900 mAh 35Wh li-poly battery but they could not even squeeze out more than 1 hour.
There was also praise for the keyboard being silent (albeit the bottom getting very warm)
The ASUS Eee Keyboard sells at Amazon.com with list price of $599 and has an Atom N270 processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB HDD, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gigabit LAN and Windows XP Home.
