Pointless rant, either way some users would be angry, leaving it till the last minute would be even worse. This way they lose some sales momentum but have already made a big impression for the future with the limited features they’ve shown. And as an android user you should be used to the no update situation. :)

Any idea why Microsoft is developing Windows Phone and Windows RT? They both run on ARM platforms, both support multi-core processors, both have 720p screens, both use touch, and neither can run apps developed for x86. iOS and Android have one OS for phone and tablet. Why not Microsoft? So now app developers have to make versions of their apps for Windows Phone, Windows RT and Windows 8? Yikes!

Agreed, this is better in the long run for them as it’ll garner more loyal consumers who would appreciate the heads up and help more people time their new phone purchase for when the WP8 phones come out instead of having to wait because they didn’t know about it and are already locked into a 2 year contract.

Unlike the typical iPhone user, there aren’t as many willing to pay full price for a new Windows Phone if they could help it or willing to pay early termination fees to then sign up for a new contract deal.

While there are also people who may not care about waiting and would still get the present phones with the knowledge they’ll still be supported and upgradeable to at least WP 7.8 and on the plus side it’ll push lower prices earlier that’ll benefit consumers.

Sasha seems to be only looking at it from the manufacturer side of things but Nokia at least knew about this well in advance.

While problems, like the supporting only single core processors and issue with microSD card mounting that caused them to remove the microSD slot in newer models were less than subtle indications these would be temporary models anyway.

Really, MS couldn’t hope to compete with the next gen Smart Phones unless they fixed the hardware and it takes more than software updates to accomplish that!

Yep, because contrary to what Google and its OEMs partners and Apple think and sold us, a tablet isn’t simply a big phone.
