We have a new report from DigiTimes that has them once again, venturing onto thin ice. Their information says that Microsoft’s new tablet will be priced well at the top end of the price scale. The reason for these high prices would seem to be strange and risky for Microsoft, but once again, the information is questionable, so don’t put your money on this. Specifically, DigiTimes’ sources say that the cheaper model with Nvidia Tegra 3 ARM platform will coast at least $ 599, while Intel model is expected to be at least $ 799.
If the prices are accurate, how did Microsoft come to these numbers? It’s simple: Based on the prices of other similar devices is easy to see what they’re getting at. No one knows why the ARM model is to be so expensive and the Intel model so low in comparison. Tablets with the Nvidia Tegra 3 platform already exist in the U.S.- like the Acer Iconia Tab A510 with Android 4.0 and an otherwise similar features at a much lower price of $450. The “Windows tax” would be in this case, at least $ 150 and it seems a very high estimate.
As the price for the Intel Core i5 “Ivy Bridge” equipped with the Windows 8 Pro-Model of the Surface tablets? Even more simple: the “sources” of DigiTimes simply take Microsoft’s statement that it wants to price the tablet at Ultrabook level prices literally and claims they’ll be “over $ 799″ at least. If Microsoft wants to compete with the iPad, the price range seems a little over the moon. So. That’s the bizarre report for the day, make of it what you will.
