Toshiba introduced several gadgets today, including the real diagonal 21:9 ultrabook U840W. At first glance, especially in regard to Windows 8, it seemed like Toshiba’s competitors were in a better position. But that’s not quite right, because Toshiba has a few prototypes hidden amongst its wares that should be running Windows 8 sometime this year.

Toshiba’s thinking is similar to that of the other manufacturers we’ve seen on the Computex floor. The new generation of ultrabooks will be similar to the ASUS transformer Pad, that is, basically a tablet with a detachable keyboard and a slider. In addition, we also might see a type of Windows RT Ultrabook, which could be provided with a chip from Texas Instruments. According to Toshiba, both Texas Instruments and Intel are involved in the development of new devices. We don’t yet know the specifications of the Windows 8 devices- they haven’t met Toshiba’s rigorous standards yet- but at least we have a few pictures of the prototypes – there are more pictures of it on The Verge.
