The parameters of Computex were defined yesterday: ultrabooks with touch capabilities and Windows 8. It’s surprising to find that Samsung has the right solution at hand. The Samsung Series 5 Convertible is a very fresh idea. It has a 13.3 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels which can be folded down 360 degrees to become completely flat – almost down to the bottom of the unit – to show only the multi-touch screen like a tablet.
Inevitably, the question of what happens to the keys pops up. Samsung has a little more time left to think about the right solution to this problem. Since these are only prototypes, you can still change things around to improve the user experience. Maybe Samsung will consider making the screen less glossy too.
The Ultra Convertible comes with an Ivy Bridge processor and 4 GB of RAM. It has the standardspecs: a USB 3.0 port and also a GB hard drive in combination with a 24GB SSD drive. As of yet, we don’t know the price and availability, but it would be great if we could get additional facts or even a production-ready model at the IFA in September.
