Augen Android Tablet 7-Inch

Augen’s 7-inch tablet that was announced for sale at Kmart yesterday has already found it’s way to a couple of users. Just to recap, it’s running Android 2.1, has a resistive touchscreen, an 800MHz processor, 256GB RAM, 2GB storage, b/g Wi-Fi and an SD card slot and it costs $150.

First up is a very quick video from the The Android Blog. His experience is summed up in two words – slow and unresponsive, although he notes that this might be due to the touchscreen (A resistive one)

Then there’s a much longer two part series from YouTube user MrJn7. The whole experience seems passable, especially for what you pay ($150). Don’t expect the buttery smooth experience you get on an iPad or smartphones. Like the iPad, there’s also no Flash support in the browser. He’s also having some issues installing certain software and it seems like there is no accelerometer on board.

Part 1: (web browsing test, hardware look, compared to iPad, 720p video clip, sleeve)

Part 2: (boot up speed, another web browsing test compared to iPad, another hardware look)

So, who’s off to Kmart today??

Heh.. I tried.. No Luck.. Although they did have an Android Angen Netbook.. for $99.00 .. I stayed FAR AWAY from it.. but it was neat to see the Android devices in store.. Just not what I wanted..

No Flash on the Android tablet but the iPad HAS it? There's a switch from expectations.

I can't wait to get a good Android/Chrome tablet. But it looks like I'll have to, for a little longer anyway.

It should have read that both don't have flash in the browser – thanks for pointing that out (fixed).

Don't expect a good tablet anywhere under $500 :) Run a mile if you see any in the $100 price range, especially from a no-name brand. There are craps loads of tablets like this selling in Asian markets.
