Toshiba AC100 Smartbook

The world’s first real 10-inch smartbook is still a month away from going on sale (at least in Japan’s case) but there’s already a Russian review up of an early model over at mail.ru (I am sure you’ve seen plenty of spam from this address too, btw!)

The review shows us again how sexy the Toshiba AC100 smartbook really is, helped by how incredibly thin and light it is and it is amazing to actually hold in your hand. Ergonomics prove to be very good with a big keyboard and trackpad. With Tegra 2 on board 1080p HD video is no problem and you can output that to a larger screen with the included HDMI port. Battery life also rocks with their benchmarks ranging from 4.5 – 7 hours. Not sure what kind of tests they are doing but real life usage should be a couple more hours than that.

They also dive into the Android 2.1 OS on board which shows us that you will get a crippled experience – there’s no Flash, no Google Marketplace and limited productivity app offerings. You will not get the full experience that Windows or Linux (not always) offers.

flash was only released recently, and aimed at the equally recent android 2.2. Marketplace is a real issue indeed, tho not surprising as google still have some very strict requirements in their 2.1 cdd (3-axis accelerometer and compass, gps and 2mpix camera must be present). As for productivity, i dont think there is much of that for android overall (a chicken and egg issue, as android have not really been available on a productivity style products for any length of time).

still, if it wont cost to much, and easy to get hold of in norway, i may grab one.
