The rumor mill has been clear that the next generation iPhone will be coming with a larger display. Now we have the Wall Street Journal reporting that Apple is placing orders for the new iPhone with its suppliers and its display is “at least 4 inches diagonally.” Production is said to be commencing next month, with LG Display, Sharp, and Japan Display Inc. being named as the major suply manufactures.
As Android manufacturers continue to increase their screen size Apple has remained steadfast at 3.5″ since the introduction of the original iPhone is 2007. The incredibly popular Samsung Galaxy SII comes with a 4.3″ display and its bigger brother, the SIII will be coming with a 4.8 inch display.
The actual size remains unknown and the water cooler talk has produced size variants from 4″ all the way up to 5″. Like any good manufacture there are likely prototypes floating around in various designs and sizes as Apple tries to figure out how to improve on its wildly successful smartphone.
