1015pe-1018p-review

Now that ASUS’ latest trio of netbooks – The Eee PC 1015PED, 1016P and 1018P are now all available or up for pre-order in the US and seemingly shipping this month, you can expect the reviews to be coming in very soon, and indeed one review is already out by Joanna from Engadget. She’s reviewed both the 1015PE and 1018P at once.

Both are some of the best looking netbooks on the market and certainly so from ASUS’ own lineup. The 1018P has a brushed metal lid and chassis while the 1015PE has a soft touch matte rubber finish going on. The 1018P, carrying over a design similar to the 1008P is one of the thinnest and lightest netbooks out there at 0.7 inches thick and weighing in at 2.4 pounds. The 1015PE is pretty much similar to older 1005Px series and indeed most netbooks with the back bulging out to fit in a larger battery.

Speaking of the battery. How’s the battery life? The 1015PE’s 47Wh 6-cell battery lasts around 6 hours and 5.5 hours on the 1018P with it’s 44Wh 6-cell battery. I think the 1015PED will have a larger capacity battery so you’ll get more than 6 hours.

Sadly, despite what we have been seeing at events both these review models had glossy screens (1024 x 600) so I suppose they will be shipping with.. glossy screens. I can’t believe it.

Nothing much to say about the insides – standard netbook fare with Atom N450 / N455 / N470 / N475 processors and GMA 3150 graphics so HD playback is a no go out of the box. All models do come with Bluetooth 3.0 though, a relatively new feature in netbooks.
