Last week HP had a launch event in Shanghai where they launched the HP Spectre XT Ultrabook and there was an announcement that HP is planning to re-enter the tablet market. This time with Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablet OS instead of WebOS.

HP CEO Meg Whitman was clear that the tablet market is a high growth segment and that HP is going to be making a move an attempt to gain market share. There has been no other information divulged about their Windows 8 plans but it will likely take design cues from the discontinued HP Touchpad, with the added bonus of having access to various cloud-based features and services.
