Just a few shorts weeks after HP gobbled up Palm and their Slate disappeared from existence – most people assuming they were reworking it to run WebOS – the Windows-powered Slate is back, and more not-dead than ever.
Well, not quite. A page has popped up on HP’s website detailing the Slate “500″ which has got everybody talking about the on-again-off-again 8.9″ tablet. According to an Energy Star listing the 500 is rocking a 1.6GHz processor (we’re assuming Atom N450/N455 until we hear otherwise), and will support pen input. Whether this is through a resistive screen or a capacitive stylus is unknown right now. The Slate runs Windows 7 Premium.
Interestingly, a Google Cache also shows 6 separate listings for the Slate – this could be indicative of an iPad-style tiered capacity 3G / non-3G-type arrangement.
So in conclusion, the HP Slate is back, we still don’t know if it’s coming out, and we still know painfully little about it.

UPDATE: Engadget went ahead and reached out to HP for comment, they got back to them and said the Slate 500 is “in customer evaluations now and will make a determination soon on the next steps.”.
So not dead, but also not alive.
