It looks like HP is feeling good about the performance of the HP Envy 14 Spectre and is preparing to launch 5 to 7 new Ultrabooks in the 2nd half of 2012. These new Ultrabooks which will launch in April are expected to achieve shipments of between 3.7 – 5.5 million units by the end of the year, according to sources over at Digitimes.

Taking a look at other Ultrabook makers, Acer was one of the first to market with their S3 & S5 series and due to their earlier position, and their cheaper price point, they are expected to achieve 4.5-6 million units in 2012. Acer is also getting ready to launch four ultrabooks in the second quarter of 2012 as their existing line up will get refreshed. So expect to see 2nd generation S3 & S5′s along with Timeline Ultra 14 and 15. Acer is expected to have shipped 250,000-300,000 ultrabooks in the first quarter with the number to increase to 500,000-700,000 units in the second.

Looks like Intel’s gamble on this new form factor is paying off, let’s just wait and see if they actually hit these numbers, after all the source of this article is Digitimes which has a hit and miss record for accuracy.
